I still remembered that scary day when I was frozen in the middle of a huge field due to a terrible threat.
I had no idea idea why that sunny day, a massive skein of geese landed on a green field together. My nieces and I innocently were so keen on running across the field so that ducks would fly away like a performance at a circus. This is also an unforgettable lesson for me that I should have been more mindful about the interaction with animals and treat them mindfully like human beings as well. Not only do they have physical, mental, and emotional condition, and deserve a good life, but also they possibly can become a sudden threat. Safety is always the top priority.
Back to the story, we were having fun while all of the sudden, an old lady ran rapidly towards me out of the blue. She screamed and chased after me like a crazy person then used both unacceptable verbal and non verbal languages to insult me and my nieces because we scared those poor geese. I deadly was frozen and did not know how to response to this awkward situation. Suddenly, my cousin showed up, she confidently and aggressively walked towards that lady while the old woman was trying to approach one of my niece. She confronted with that woman and was ready to fight back to protect her daughters.
At that moment, I just realized how fragile, broken, lonely, and poor I was. I have never had that kind of protection or support before. It invisibly built up a wall of refusal and hesitancy inside my heart. I did not know how to ask for help and receive support from other people. The moment opened my eyes about what a family should look like. A new definition of family was born since then.
To recap, a sense of security and a support system are necessary for us to include in our lives, especially in our holistic self-care list.
